Home Energy Tailor

Terms & Conditions

Last updated: May 2026

1. Who we are

These terms apply to energy assessment services provided by Home Energy Tailor T/A Michael Farley (“we”, “us”, “the Assessor”). You can reach us on 0770 925 9200 or enquiries@homeenergytailor.co.uk.

2. Standard conditions of engagement

Your Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) is produced by an Energy Assessor licensed under a government-approved accreditation scheme and is delivered in accordance with that scheme's standards, regulations and Code of Conduct.

  • An EPC is only valid once issued by a licensed assessor and lodged on the government's national EPC Register.
  • A Home Energy Report is non-lodged and cannot be used to satisfy sale, letting or MEES compliance - it is for advice and planning only.
  • Any services beyond the assessment fall outside these terms and require a separate agreement.

3. What the assessment provides - and does not

The assessment gives energy-efficiency and environmental-impact ratings, improvement recommendations, and (for an EPC) a certificate valid for 10 years. It is a snapshot as at the inspection date.

It is not a valuation, a structural or condition survey, and does not assess health-and-safety matters beyond those affecting the inspection. Please obtain separate professional advice where needed.

4. Scope of inspection

  • The inspection is strictly non-invasive - we do not lift carpets or floorboards, move furniture, or open secured panels.
  • Lofts are inspected only where safely accessible via a hatch using a standard ladder.
  • If access to key elements (e.g. the boiler or meters) is restricted, the assessment may be paused or aborted; a partial fee may apply (see section 6).

5. Our right to withdraw

We may withdraw from an assessment where there are health-and-safety risks beyond a typical survey, significantly restricted access, utilities not connected, an unmanaged construction site, or a conflict of interest. Where withdrawal could have been avoided by the client, a pro-rata fee may be charged for abortive work.

6. Cancellation, aborted visits & copies

  • Cancellation with less than 24 hours' notice: £50.
  • Aborted assessment due to the client (e.g. no access on arrival): 60% of the booking charge.
  • Printed copy of an EPC or Home Energy Report: £9.50 including postage.

Refunds, where due, are made via the original payment method (Stripe).

7. Payment & VAT

Payment is taken in full in advance when you book. An EPC is not lodged until payment has cleared; your certificate or report is delivered after the visit (EPCs typically within 48 hours).

Home Energy Tailor is not VAT registered; no VAT is charged.

8. Accreditation

Accreditation is provided by Elmhurst Energy Systems Ltd (accreditation number EES/036404). If we cannot resolve a complaint, it may be escalated to the scheme at complaints@elmhurstenergy.co.uk.

9. Insurance

We hold Professional Indemnity insurance and Public Liability insurance. Certificates are available on request.

10. Data protection

We handle your personal data in accordance with UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018, using it only to deliver and lodge your assessment and to service your booking. See our Privacy Policy for full details.

11. Complaints

We aim to provide a professional, high-quality service. Please raise any concerns with us first (ideally in writing); we aim to respond within five working days. If you remain dissatisfied, you may escalate to our accreditation scheme as above.

12. Acceptance

By completing a booking and ticking the acceptance box at checkout, you confirm you have read, understood and accept these Terms & Conditions and authorise the assessment to proceed. Your acceptance is recorded with a timestamp.
